Let not your hearts be troubled;
believe in God, believe also in Me. In
my Father's house are many rooms; if
it were not so, would I have told you
that I go and prepare a place for
you?
And when I go and prepare a place for
you, I will come again and will take you
to myself, that where I am you may be
also.
(John 14:1-3).

I receive the first of many phone calls. It was my Dad. I didn't get to the phone before the machine picked up. Whatever he said was unintelligible. I looked at caller ID, saw that it was my Dad and called him back. I got his voice mail, and left a message. At this point, I had that sick feeling in my stomach, and was ready to vomit right then. My Dad called back and told me that my brother Lance was killed in an accident.
My brother is dead. I still can't comprehend it.
He was riding his bike, at night. A car pulled out of a parking lot right in front of him. The driver didn't see him. Lance had no time to react. He went over the front, and when he came down, he broke his neck. He had no head injuries. He was dead instantly.
My brother was an experienced rider; he'd been riding for 20 years or so. Goddamnit! Why don't people fucking LOOK?????? I'm angry. I know how much he loved it, but riding in South Florida is far different from riding in Delaware and the Massachusetts countryside. Fucking stubborn mule! I'm torn. I'm angry that he was on the bike, but in my heart, I know he wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
I digress. I don't want to make this post about me and my feelings; i'll do that another day.
The good news (if there can even be any), is that there was very little head and facial damage, so we were able to have an open casket. As morbid as that sounds, it goes a long way in the grieving and healing process. It's an integral part of being able to say good-bye. I really half expected(more like WANTED) him to sit up and say, "Who took my Molson?". He would have that silly-ass grin on his face, and his eyes would be twinkling, like they always did.
Give Mom and the rest of the family loves and hugs from me. I know I'll see you all again.
Enjoy the long peaceful ride Brother; keep a cold one waiting for me.
I Love You Lanny.
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
May the rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
May the rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

ok...third try... computer savvy and i are NOT synonymous!
Just wanted to let you know that I think Lance would have liked what you've put together here ~ especially the part about him being a mule :o)
It's been about a week now since the news of his passing has made it to DE... and I still feel as if a knife twists in my soul when I think of it ~ can't even begin to imagine what you must be going thru.
He was one of a kind, and will always hold a special place in my heart...
My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours...
Well done!
