Back in the US .... er, um ....

Soooo .... I read an article in the paper today that most (not all) police departments across the US of A do NOT need a warrant to attach a GPS device to your vehicle for surveillance.
(read that sentence again)
The article itself was about a young man of who took his car in to have an oil change when the mechanic noticed a strange wire hanging down.
The mechanic followed the wire to a strange looking black box that he removed.
He didn't know what it was, and neither did the owner of said vehicle.
So, they took pictures of the device and posted it on the web asking for any information on it.
Within a few days, the FBI showed up on the young mans doorstep and demanded he return their property.

After much legal activity, the US Court of Appeals has ruled that NO WARRANT is needed for police and federal agencies to attach these GPS devices.

EXCUSE ME???????

Is this the USA or USSR?

Oh, just in case anyone was wondering, the young man who owns the vehicle is of Arab descent.
Not that it should matter.

I would have run it through a blender and gave it back.
I am not surprised on how the US govt acts and they are NOT the only ones. Countries have now gotten blackberry to give over codes so they can access anyone blackberry to read their personal emails. Our right have been eroded to the point where we may be needing permission from some clerk in the sanitation department to go for a shit.
Welcome to the 21 century
