That was the best known song from the Divinyls.
It was their biggest hit, but not necessarily their best song.
Over the weekend, Chrissy Amphlett, frontwoman of Divinyls, lost her battle to cancer and MS.
She was a true rock chick.
For this weeks Flashback Friday, I pay tribute to her awesome sound.
Being as today is Friday, I decided to post a Flashback Video.
I'm in the mood for some kick-ass music from another relatively local girl.
Jamestowns own Natalie Merchant.
Loved her with 10,000 maniacs ....
love her as a solo artist.
Hellooooo my lovelies!
Welcome to Flashback Friday or Flash 'em Friday .... whatever you prefer.
I haven't posted a flashback in awhile, and today I was feeling all nostalgic about some of the great bands and musicians that the Buffalo area has produced.
Sure, everyone knows the Goo Goo Dolls, but they weren't the only big names around.
Ever heard of Billy Sheehan? He has played with David Lee Roth, Mr. Big ,Steve Vai.
Before the legendary Billy Sheehan hit it big, he was part of the 3-man band known as Talas.
A local favorite with a very loyal following.
Talas did record an album, but sadly, never achieved the level of success they wanted or deserved.
However, they did have one song that hit the charts locally ..... "Seesaw".
My flashback today is a song from 1978, but the footage is from 2001 when the band reunited for a local gig.
This morning, as I was trolling through YouTube, I came across a very rare gem .....
Olivia Newton-John & ELO from "Xanadu"!
Do y'all remember this movie??
Let me refresh your memory .....
"The Greek muses incarnate themselves on Earth to inspire men to achieve.
One of them, incarnated as a girl named Kira, encounters an artist
named Sonny Malone. With the help of Danny McGuire, a man Kira had
inspired forty years earlier, Sonny builds a huge disco roller rink" ~ IMDB
This movie was terrible in soooooo many ways .... and I love it!
So as I was watching the video for "Xanadu", all I could think of was the daring Daisyfae and her latest adventure.
All you need is some leg warmers and shiny spandex pants to get your Roller Disco Queen on!
HAHAHAHA
While trolling through the innawebs, I came across this lovely gem.
While watching it, all I could think of was, "TITS!!!!!!!".
The music sucks .... but hey, there's BOOBIES!
Lots and lots of boobies.
Not covered up either.
Recently, I was reminded that I need to not just Give Bliss a Chance,
but really ... EMBRACE IT.
Not just talk about it.
Even on days when I don't much feel like it.
My bliss today is in remembering and celebrating my Mothers LIFE.
I remember hearing this back in 1976.
I was only 8.
We both loved the beat.
It made us happy ..... and we DANCED.
Unashamed and full of happiness and joy.
33 years have passed .... but today i'm going to dance like I was 8!
Growing up on Lake Erie, I heard the story of 'The Edmund Fitzgerald', a freighter that sank in
Lake Superior on November 10,1975, killing all 29 crew members on board.
Afterwards, Gordon Lightfoot, a prolific Canadian singer/songwriter wrote an amazing and haunting song about it.
It has always been one of my favorite songs.
I'm sorry I haven't been around much ....
I have a lot of personal schizz going on right now.
*sigh*
Is it April 5th yet????
That's when me & all my boys are headed to the warm, sandy beaches of Jamaica!
Wheeeeeeeeeeeee
Anywhoodle ....
My "flashback" for today comes to you all the way from 1972!
Granted, the band had other monster hits .... but this song just makes me smile (and giggle)
I saw a promo for the upcoming Van Halen Tour, and *BAM*,
I was instantly back in the early 80's rockin' out with my (proverbial) cock out!
Diamond Dave and the boys were the SHIZZ!
But ..... somewhere in the middle of a VERY successful tour in 1985 for their "1984" Album, David Lee Roth was booted from the band (or left .... depends on who you ask).
The band replaced Diamond Dave with Sammy Hagar.
He was no DLR, but he & the Van Halen Boys managed to put out a few substantial and worthwhile songs.
This one (in my opinion) is still VERY relevant ..... 20 years later!
There was of course, ANOTHER change at lead singer (Eddie has 'artistic' issues) ....
Gary Cherone.
(Not a fan)
But, as time has gone on, Van Halen is back together as it was ..... except for Michael Anthony (Bass) who was replaced by Wolfgang Van Halen ...... Eddies son.
They are getting ready to release a new album.
Here's their new single:
Um ...... yeah.
Form your own opinion .... but I prefer to remember the glory days of Van Halen/Van Hagar.
