Over the weekend, Chrissy Amphlett, frontwoman of Divinyls,  lost her battle to cancer and MS.
She was a true rock chick.
For this weeks Flashback Friday, I pay tribute to her awesome sound.

To relieve the shaking, the shivering

Like all addicts, the next ' fix' is on his brain
When I look into his eyes filled with with all the anger, pain and confusion
I see a man who is lost
Lost to the anger ....
Lost to the pain ....
Lost to the confusion ...
Lost in the drink.



The battle of alcoholism.
It sucks.

Hard Lessons ....

The Boy is in the midst of a very heartbreaking and quite traumatic (and dramatic) on-again-off-again
relationship.
I'm trying my very best to keep my nose out of his business and just "be here" for him.
It's a struggle.
Not that I want to tell him how to live his life.
Especially his love life.
But ... the Mommy in me wants to keep on protecting him.
I can't.
I know I can't.

Hard lessons are being learned.
By both of us.

Heavy heart ....

Like a majority of the country, I spent a good portion of last night glued to my television.
I couldn't tear my eyes away form the horrorific scene in Newtown, CT.
I was consumed with sadness and wept off and on for a good deal of the evening.
I squeezed and kissed my own precious babe a little tighter and a whole lot longer.
He's the same age as some of those kids .....

Even after I went to bed, my brain was filled with thoughts of all those sweet innocents.
And the brave women.
And the parents.
And the siblings.
And the spouses/significant others.
And the teachers.
And the Fire, Police and EMS personnel.

I can't wrap my head around it.
Any of it.
I don't think any of us can.
I don't think we ever will.

As I sit here writing this, my Woobie is snuggled up right beside me.
Sound asleep.

I'm weeping again.
For so many reasons ....


My deepest sympathies to the entire town of Newtown, CT.
I hope you find some peace in the days, weeks and months to follow.
I hope we all do ....

Flash 'em Friday - Buffalo style

Hellooooo my lovelies!
Welcome to Flashback Friday or Flash 'em Friday .... whatever you prefer.

I haven't posted a flashback in awhile, and today I was feeling all nostalgic about some of the great bands and musicians that the Buffalo area has produced.
Sure, everyone knows the Goo Goo Dolls, but they weren't the only big names around.

Ever heard of Billy Sheehan?  He has played with David Lee Roth, Mr. Big ,Steve Vai.
Before the legendary Billy Sheehan hit it big, he was part of the 3-man band known as Talas.
A local favorite with a very loyal following.
Talas did record an album, but sadly, never achieved the level of success they wanted or deserved.
However, they did have one song that hit the charts locally ..... "Seesaw".

My flashback today is a song from 1978, but the footage is from 2001 when the band reunited for a local gig.

What shade are you? Are you grey at all?

I've been told i'm cold, heartless and black.
Black is merely the absence of color.
So it got me thinking .... am I devoid of color in my life?
Am I absent of light in my personality?  My relationships?

I am not.
I am quite colorful .... just more protective in the real world.
Sadly, it is a must.

My haiku this week is an ode to those who didn't know how or couldn't be bothered to really break through the "black, icy chunk that should be your heart" (so NOT my words).
My heart is a rainbow of color!

Soulful Sunday ......

There's nothing 'easy' about me.
Not on Sunday or any other damn day of the week.

Moving on ....

I went to a graduation party yesterday.
Two actually.
The first was for The Boy's BFF.
They've been pretty much inseparable for the last 4 years.
He leaves for the Navy soon.
I think my son will be lost without him next year.

The second party was for my BFF's daughter .... The Boys' first real friend, boy or girl.
It seems like only yesterday Kritter (my BFF)ad I were taking the kids out to the Pumpkin Patch for Halloween pumpkins.
They used to play together on many a Friday and/or Saturday night as we adults were downstairs playing Scrabble, Pictionary or cards.
It was actually more of an excuse to sit around with good friends and talk about life, have a few cocktails and unwind from our hectic lives.

They were toddlers..
So young.
They're still young .....
But now they're getting ready to embark on a new chapter in their lives.
It's exciting .....
and sad.
It means i'm OLD.
I don't know when that happened.
I still feel like i'm 28!
(I plan to stay 28 forever BTW)

Is June over yet?

I believe I have stated on here several times how much I DESPISE the month of June.

I lost Mom on June 1st and my brother on June 25th.
In between it's the end of the school year and the stress is just a bit overwhelming sometimes.

Today I found out that the Mother of my best friend since I was 7 died this morning.
She was a Mother to me and helped me when I was an unruly, wayward teenager.
She took me in when I was kicked out of my house.
She treated me like one of her own.

March????

I live in Buffalo, NY.
We're known for our snowy, cold winters (and chicken wings).
This year?
Um ..... not so much.
So you can imagine how odd it is for me to have 70+ degree temps in MARCH?
I almost feel like i'm back down in the south!
(almost .... I don't have monster bugs that'll carry my children away here)

Since I still can't do a whole lot of lifting, bending or pulling, I could only watch my neighbors get a HUGE jump on their yard work, planting, clean-up, etc.
What I could do though, was take a walk around my yard and see what all will need to be done.
(I do still have a 17 yo living here, might as well put him to good use!)

My yard needs help.
Lots of it.
The back fence needs to be replaced.
The pool is always a challenge to open, clean, etc.
The shed needs a new roof ... oops ... and a new door (damnit).
The concrete pad shifted .... and cracked.

*sigh*
Let's go to the side garden.

I have some just about ready to BLOOM!

Unheard of!

I apologize for the crapiness of the picture, I only had my phone on me and I was enjoying the beauty of the day to come inside and get my real camera.
