Flash 'em Friday - Buffalo style

Hellooooo my lovelies!
Welcome to Flashback Friday or Flash 'em Friday .... whatever you prefer.

I haven't posted a flashback in awhile, and today I was feeling all nostalgic about some of the great bands and musicians that the Buffalo area has produced.
Sure, everyone knows the Goo Goo Dolls, but they weren't the only big names around.

Ever heard of Billy Sheehan?  He has played with David Lee Roth, Mr. Big ,Steve Vai.
Before the legendary Billy Sheehan hit it big, he was part of the 3-man band known as Talas.
A local favorite with a very loyal following.
Talas did record an album, but sadly, never achieved the level of success they wanted or deserved.
However, they did have one song that hit the charts locally ..... "Seesaw".

My flashback today is a song from 1978, but the footage is from 2001 when the band reunited for a local gig.

Recently, I was reminded that I need to not just Give Bliss a Chance,
but really ... EMBRACE IT.
Not just talk about it.
Even on days when I don't much feel like it.

My bliss today is in remembering and celebrating my Mothers LIFE.
I remember hearing this back in 1976.
I was only 8.
We both loved the beat.
It made us happy ..... and we DANCED.
Unashamed and  full of happiness and joy.

33 years have passed .... but today i'm going to dance like I was 8!

A real one ... not the one i've been exiled to since December.

Van Halen

HAPPY FRIDAY!

I saw a promo for the upcoming Van Halen Tour, and *BAM*,
I was instantly back in the early 80's rockin' out with my (proverbial) cock out!
Diamond Dave and the boys were the SHIZZ!



But ..... somewhere in the middle of a VERY successful tour in 1985 for their "1984" Album, David Lee Roth was booted from the band (or left .... depends on who you ask).
The band replaced Diamond Dave with Sammy Hagar.
He was no DLR, but he & the Van Halen Boys managed to put out a few substantial and worthwhile songs.
This one (in my opinion) is still VERY relevant ..... 20 years later!




There was of course, ANOTHER change at lead singer (Eddie has 'artistic' issues) ....
Gary Cherone.
(Not a fan)

But, as time has gone on, Van Halen is back together as it was ..... except for Michael Anthony (Bass) who was replaced by Wolfgang Van Halen ...... Eddies son.
They are getting ready to release a new album.
Here's their new single:




Um ...... yeah.
Form your own opinion .... but I prefer to remember the glory days of Van Halen/Van Hagar.

Love note to my children .....

T'was the night before school started,

when all through the town,

the parents were cheering - a riotous sound!!

By nine, kids were all washed and tucked into bed,

where memories of homework filled them with dread!

New pencils, new folder, new notebooks too!

New teachers, new friends - their anxiety grew!

The parents just giggled when they learned of this fright,
but shouted to all,  

"GO TO BED!!!! IT'S A SCHOOL NIGHT!!!

Another week down .....
I only have 4 left till it's back to "the grind".
(Yes, being a school district employee allows me the luxury of being home with my boys)

My oldest and I have been having discussions of colleges, the military ...
all those wonderful conversations parents have when their kids grow up.

I can't believe how fast the time has flown!
*SIGH*
(I have to go cry again)

Anyway, here's my pick for this week ......

Flashy Flashback Friday

Happy Friday y'all!

I know I have stated here on many occasions that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE 70's music.
Particularly disco/funk/RB.
It makes me feel happy.

I heard this at work last night and I just HAD to share.
It's Elton John's "Mama can't buy you love".
Now, he released this as part of his 'comeback' in 1979.
(He didn't do so well after his 1976 Rolling Stone interview where he announced he was bisexual)

It may not be one his best, but it's one of my faves.
It also doesn't hurt that The Spinners sang backup AND played the horns on this delicious track.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend .... I shall be cleaning and hopefully painting.

I am into day 2 of Summer Vacation .... and I have rain.

LOT'S of rain.

I don't mind.

I decided to go with a parody song for today.

I'm sick and tired of the whole Lady Gaga saga.

She's NOT original.
