Down on the BAYOU ....

Happy Haiku Monday!
That cheeky little monkey, Rafa, is our lovely host this week and has chosen the theme of BAYOU.
Having lived in Florida for 10 years, i'm somewhat familiar with bayous.
We just called them The Everglades.

Either way, they're mysterious ....
Creepy .....
Beautiful .....
Haunting .....
Mesmerizing ....

I find myself drawn to them.
Not sure why.

Here's my haiku in honor of the Bayou .....

Stagnant, lazy stream
Mossy covered cypress loom
Eerie mystery

Here's another to tickle your toes:

On a full moon night,
Howling presence from thin air,
The Bayou Banshee

INDEPENDENCE!!!!!

“I am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will.”
― Charlotte BrontëJane Eyre

Welcome to Haiku Monday!
Our resident Southern Belle, Aunty Belle is our most gracious hostess this week.
In keeping with the upcoming holiday, Aunty has chosen Independence as the theme.

Independence takes on many forms .... from an oppressed people who band together to fight for their freedom, to a young woman striking out on her own for the first time.
I have chosen the latter to write about today.
My beautiful, smart, talented niece who leaves for college today.
She and I have shared many in-depth conversations and I consider it an honor that she feels comfortable
to come to me with anything and everything.
I will miss her terribly, but I know she will become more amazing and do incredible things!

So, here's to you Su-Z ......

Tough,sweet girl of Fall,
17 and resolute,
Wings unfurled, FLY!

“How wrong is it for a woman to expect the man to build the world she wants, rather than to create it herself?”
― Anaïs Nin

Have a safe and awesome week y'all!

BLOOMin 'ell .... it's Monday!

That means that it's 'hai' time I wrote a Haiku.

Jean over at Pondering is hosting this week, and the theme is "BLOOM".
But not your average kinda Bloom.
No siree, the word BLOOM is not allowed in the 'ku.
Cool by me.

Promise of You

Promises of you
Lies dormant in my cold heart
Love will resurrect

Rocky Monday ....

Happy pre-Thanksgiving y'all!
I know for many people this week is crazy.
Myself included.

However, the lovely Serendipity has chosen a most interesting theme for this week, and I couldn't resist!
She asked us to write about a particular rock formation that we love.
Maybe even inspired us.

I knew right away that I wanted to write about my most favorite place in the world ......
Niagara Falls.
Niagara originates from the Neutral Indian name "Ongniaahra"
meaning "Thunder of Waters".

I have written about it's awesomeness on a few occasions.
No matter how old I get, I am still awed by it's power and beauty.
Visiting the Falls renews my spirit.

Back in 1969, the Mighty Niagara's water flow was stopped so that the Army Corps of Engineers could assess
just how much erosion was occurring and to clear out some of the broken rocks at the bottom.
Of course, scientists also took samples of the river bed, mosses, etc.

So, my Haiku for this week is of Niagara Falls WITHOUT the water.
Still beautiful, grand and powerful (in my opinion)

Unnatural sight
Even the Mighty is frail
Till the river flows

This is what we're all used to seeing:

I am still in awe.

Haiku Monday - Southeast

I know I haven't played in a while.
But Czar's subject this week is a place that is near and dear to me
and someplace I miss so very much.

I was born and raised in the Northeast, but I lived in Florida for 10 years and have traveled quite a bit through the lovely states that make up the Southeastern United States.
I lost my heart there.
The south has a very special place in my soul.
Always will.

Here's my entries for today:

Northern girl I am
My soul will forever yearn
Florida sunshine

Alabama Red
National title? No more
The Tide got rolled

What's cooler than cool?

Welcome to Haiku Monday!
The ever so gracious Grins/Curmudgeon has chosen 'cool' as the theme AND he gave us
2 weeks to get our shit together submit whatever it is our minds come up with.

Black, white and furry
Arch enemy: Red Baron
Snoopy IS Joe Cool

It's not fantastic ... even with 2 weeks to work on it!
Ah well ....

50 shades of ????

Oh never mind .... those "books" were horrific anyway.
*gah*

Moving along .....
Rafa is our host(ess) with the most(est) this week.
He's challenged us with Grey.
What shade are you? Are you grey at all?

I've been told i'm cold, heartless and black.
Black is merely the absence of color.
So it got me thinking .... am I devoid of color in my life?
Am I absent of light in my personality?  My relationships?

I am not.
I am quite colorful .... just more protective in the real world.
Sadly, it is a must.

My haiku this week is an ode to those who didn't know how or couldn't be bothered to really break through the "black, icy chunk that should be your heart" (so NOT my words).
My heart is a rainbow of color!
Their loss .....

Ice Queen

Heart as black as coal
It's what they all said.  But look,
My rainbow runs deep

Slackers-R-us

Hello blogland!
Didja miss me????
(lie to me if you have to)
(scratch that .... I abhor lying)
(i'm very contradictory today ..... imagine that!)
*sigh*

I'm sorry i've been absent.
I could tell you that i've been busy (I have), and that i'm swamped (I am).
But really?
It would be me just blowing a bunch of proverbial air up y'alls arses.
I love y'all too much and respect y'all too much for that.
I'm a slack-ass.
Period.
End of story.

Ahhhhh ..... I feel more bester (and much gooder) now.
Can we move long now?

Sooo .... today is Monday.
That means a new theme has been chosen by the oh-so-fabulous MOI, the winner of last weeks Haiku Challenge.

She has chosen VENGEANCE as the theme.
I can so wrap my head around THIS!

When I was younger (so much younger than today), I was engaged to a wonderful man.
Well .... till he got his piece on the side tramp, "girlfriend" pregnant.

You know what they say .......

Hell hath no fury!
A gas tank full of salt; cure!
Vengeance can be sweet

I can't say i'm proud of it.

I got mad AND got even.

Textural titillation .....

Textures.
That is this weeks theme for Haiku Monday.

Having a child on the Autism Spectrum, I live my life around textures!
Too mushy, too gooey, too soft, too scritchy, GAH!  We've been through them all!
I thought about writing about another Haiku about my sons textural issues, but .....
yeah ...
It's been done already.

So, I decided to rip a page out of my life ...
and my textures.

It's a bit on the risque side .....

A bind of black silk
Senses heightened; nerves aroused
Slick tongue is your whip

I usually save my *ahem* steamier stuff for full poems.
But I wanted to see if I could convey erotica in 5-7-5.
I don't think it's half bad.

The lovely  (and VERY saucy) CoreyJo is the hostess this week.
Go on over and have a read.

Sultry .....

Hmmm ..... sultry.
What image pops into your head when you read that word?
I have several (and most x-rated!).

But this image is what stands out the most:

Catching fireflies
Wet sheet of humidity
Summer night magic

I don't know .... maybe it's because I had sights like this pretty much all weekend, but watching the fireflies and staring up at the stars when there's absolutely no artificial light around really takes my breath away.
It also helps me achieve a clarity that I only get when i'm out at camp.
Absence of distraction .... it's awesome!

Well, after having the day to try and finish my second idea of 'sultry', I believe I have finally been able to put in words the image in my head.
Which is this:

 Passion overtakes
Slamming loins against the wall
Years of want renewed

Foamy was the winner of last weeks Haiku Monday .... go on over and see what Sultry means to everyone else!

Cross Roads ....

That is the theme for this weeks Haiku Challenge.
I gave this one a great deal of thought ....
It became very personal to me.
This is where I was .... 18 years ago.

Two blue lines; Now what?
Unmarried single Mother,
Trip to doctor, Or ....

Go on over to Grumpy Granny  and go have a read .... or submit one yourself.

Patterns

Serendipity was the winner of Haiku Monday last week, and as such, she gets to choose the theme, host and pick a new winner.
This weeks theme is Patterns ..... and I have gone in a couple different directions with this.
They may seem a bit 'outside the box' .... but they are still within the Pattern theme.
Well, to me they are.

I hope you go over and have a read ..... the entries are outstanding and the entrants extremely talented.

Enjoy!

Gravity
Defying Newton
South - North flows Niagara
End result? The Falls

Field of Dreams

Circular phenomena

Sensory overload .....

Today is April 2nd .... the official Light It Up Blue for Autism Awareness.
This is a cause that is very near and dear to my heart ....

Little Man was diagnosed with PDD-NOS, which puts him on the Autism Spectrum Disorders list.
When I wrote this post last year, my baby was in a VERY bad place.
So was I.
We have come so far in the last year!
I wondered some days how or if we ever would.

He continues to amaze, astound, delight, frustrate and some days, scare the bejesus out of me.
Thankfully, we have more good days than bad days.

For kids with Autism or who have ASD, the senses are a huge part of the disorder.
Both good and bad.
Most have sensory integration issues.
Like Little Man ....

Both of my Haiku this week are not only for my son, but for others with ASD.

Jello? Too squishy
Clothing tags? OUCH! Deep, sharp knife.
Too much! Make it stop!

Sight, sound, taste, smell, touch
Emotions swirling, twirling
His sensory storm

Rafa is the host for this week ... and as you may have guessed, he choose SENSE for the subject/theme.
Please go visit .... you won't be disappointed!

Eggs .....

Sorry I missed last weeks Haiku Monday ....
Life got in the way.

But, I did happen to notice that Serendipity was the winner and is hostess this week.
The theme is Eggs.
Eggs are symbolic of fertility, life and renewal.
I immediately thought of my eggs, and how I no longer have the ability to produce them.
But also how these incredibly amazing little eggs were transformed into my 2 amazing, wonderful, smart, gorgeous and talented boys.

So, I hope you enjoy my Haiku this week.

Hundreds attempted
But only one transformed
My egg; my sweet child.

Circling the universe ....

It's Monday!
Haiku time!

Curmudgeon is this weeks host .... and his subject is Circles.

Hmm .... so many options!
This is part of why i'm trying my hand at Haiku ... the subjects make me think.
And the 5-7-5 forces me to convey my thoughts and words in a very strict form.
So NOT me .... or my style of writing!
But the more I write, the more I find I ADORE them!

Here's my first for this week:

I do forever
Springtime until death parts us
Loves endless circle

Heart, Blondie, Bee Gees
Circular sounds of my youth
Stars on 45's!

Silence of love .....

Happy Monday!
I hope y'all had a wonderful weekend.
Foam  is hosting this weeks Haiku Challenge, and the theme is ..... Silence.

Here's 2 about the silence of love.
One new .....

Buried way down deep
like seedlings under the snow
Love buds lay silent

One lost ......

No words left to speak
passions flame slowly dying
silence at loves death

Nothing ventured ....

 ..... nothing ventured!
(can you name that movie?!)

Happy Monday evah'body!
I hope y'all had a happy, joyful and peaceful weekend.

Last week, the oh-so-mysterious Karl was the big winner of Haiku Monday.
As is customary, the winner now gets to choose the subject for the following week.
Karl choose venture.
Sweet hell!
I swear, these topics just keep getting more and more challenging!
Hmm .... Venture.
Definition:  "an undertaking involving uncertainty as to the outcome, especially a risky or dangerous one"

Alrighty then.
That makes it easier .... this is something I WILL do before I kick-it!

My entry for the week:

Thousands of feet high,
Strapped in jumpsuit. Ready ... JUMP!
Exhilarating!

So there you have it.
If you get a chance, head on over to Karl's place, grab a drink and have a read ... there's some major talent in this pool (I keep hoping it'll rub off).
Better yet, write one.

"X"- tra insane ....

It's Monday!
You know that means right?!

YES!
I am once again attempting HAIKU!
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee !!!!
I can tell you're all waiting in antici ... (wait for it) PATION for my entry!

The lovely and talented Moi is hosting this week and she choose "X" as the topic.
I gotta tell you, my brain imploded with this subject.
Really.
I was completely stumped.
Then all of a sudden, *BAM*.
I had the perfect subject right in front of me.

I call it, "x-GaMes".
Enjoy ......

Loud squeals of laughter
Takes flight down the snowy hill

Mysterious Melody ....

***UPDATED 1:45pm EST***
Ok ... I have another Haiku (i'm just as stunned ... believe me!)
This one is in honor of my oldest ....

The screen door slams shut
Jangle of car keys in hand
Young man new to streets

Ting! Ting! Ting! Of drops
Natures harmonious song
Rain on a tin roof

Serendipitous Wild Moments is hosting this weeks Haiku Monday.
This weeks theme is "Metallic Sounds".

Even if you don't participate (or participate sporadically ... like me), go on over and take a read.
There are some wickedly talented people in this pool ... and it's always interesting to read other peoples interpretation of the chosen theme.

Treasure ......

Well ... since I had fun with last weeks Haiku, I figured i'd try my hand at it again.

The lovely Chickory was the winner of last weeks Haiku Monday and is Hostess for this week.
She chose the subject/theme of Treasure.
As soon as I read it ... I was kind of inspired!
Well, as inspired as I can be for Haiku!  lol
(I fully admit, I LOVE reading them ... but I am NOT good with the writing of them!)
I invite and encourage any of my readers who don't participate to try their hand at it ... or at least go visit Chickory and read some absolutely amazing and talented writing!
Oh, and as an extra incentive, Chickory will be bestowing the winner of this week with one her FABULOUS pieces of artwork! (you can find her awesome work for sale here)

Anywhoodle .... I have 4 (four) this week.
They're not fabulous .... but they're all about MY treasure(s)!

I hope you enjoy them .....

 On a summer night,
We planted our seedlings
That became my life

Blonde hair, blue eyes
The very best of myself
My gorgeous boys

 Grubby little hand
Reaching for me in the dark,
Monsters chased away

Soulful brown eyes,
Searching for home through my screen,
We healed our souls
